We packed up and headed out for a six hour drive through Wyoming to South Dakota.
And we drove and we drove and we drove... seemed like it took forever.
Then we found the nation's first National Monument. It's called Devil's Tower. It's the inside of a volcano that has petrified and stands almost 900 ft tall. The outside of the volcano has eroded away leaving this weird looking structure. President Roosevelt made it a National Monument sometime in the 1940's. It was featured in the movie Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind.
The park around the Tower is one of the prettiest places we have seen. As you drive closer and closer to the tower, there are huge trees and lots of green grass. As we got nearer though, a huge storm blew in and pummeled us with great big hail stones. It sounded like those firework poppers in our van.
Today we are driving to Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial, which are only a few minutes away from where we are staying. We're just having a little trouble getting started...

Hello Dear Sleepyheads!
Do we have coffee or chocolate on board yet:)
That Devil's Tower sounds very interesting! And the hail storm must have been exciting?! How did Chuck's fun bus fair through the hail? Hey, maybe the hail did his bug removal for him????
Can't wait for today's pictures!
We love you all so much!
Robyn, for all of us!
Well I learned something new about the first National Monument. Or if I learned about it, I had forgotten. That was very intersting.
Looks like some pretty scenery. How is the Van working out? It sure looks like it would be pretty comfortable. Maybe not as comfy as McKenna and Cassidy look in that bed!!!
So nice to see your pictures. Thank you so much, Much much love, Mom
